Multiscale Uncertainty Quantification based on A Generalized Hidden Markov Model

چکیده

Variability is inherent randomness in systems, whereas incertitude is due to lack of knowledge. In this paper, a generalized hidden Markov model (GHMM) is proposed to quantify aleatory and epistemic uncertainties simultaneously in multiscale system analysis. The GHMM is based on a new imprecise probability theory that has the form of generalized interval. The new interval probability resembles the precise probability and has a similar calculus structure. The proposed GHMM allows us to quantify cross-scale dependency and information loss between scales. Based on a generalized interval Bayes’ rule, three cross-scale information assimilation approaches that incorporate uncertainty propagation are also developed.

A generalization of Profile Hidden Markov Model (PHMM) using one-by-one dependency between sequences

The Profile Hidden Markov Model (PHMM) can be poor at capturing dependency between observations because of the statistical assumptions it makes. To overcome this limitation, the dependency between residues in a multiple sequence alignment (MSA) which is the representative of a PHMM can be combined with the PHMM. Based on the fact that sequences appearing in the final MSA are written based on th...

An Introduction to Hidden Markov Models and Bayesian Networks

We provide a tutorial on learning and inference in hidden Markov models in the context of the recent literature on Bayesian networks. This perspective makes it possible to consider novel generalizations of hidden Markov models with multiple hidden state variables, multiscale representations, and mixed discrete and continuous variables. Although exact inference in these generalizations is usuall...

A stochastic mixed finite element heterogeneous multiscale method for flow in porous media

A computational methodology is developed to efficiently perform uncertainty quantification for fluid transport in porous media in the presence of both stochastic permeability and multiple scales. In order to capture the small scale heterogeneity, a new mixed multiscale finite element method is developed within the framework of the heterogeneous multiscale method (HMM) in the spatial domain. Thi...

A Multiscale Strategy for Bayesian Inference Using Transport Maps | SIAM/ASA Journal on Uncertainty Quantification | Vol. 4, No. 1 | Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics

In many inverse problems, model parameters cannot be precisely determined from observational data. Bayesian inference provides a mechanism for capturing the resulting parameter uncertainty, but typically at a high computational cost. This work introduces a multiscale decomposition that exploits conditional independence across scales, when present in certain classes of inverse problems, to decou...

Intrusion Detection Using Evolutionary Hidden Markov Model

Intrusion detection systems are responsible for diagnosing and detecting any unauthorized use of the system, exploitation or destruction, which is able to prevent cyber-attacks using the network package analysis. one of the major challenges in the use of these tools is lack of educational patterns of attacks on the part of the engine analysis; engine failure that caused the complete training,  ...
